Sweet Corn the Book
The main character in Sweet Corn might describe the story as follows:
In a moment’s notice my life changed. It was if a whirlwind had come through and picked up everything I knew and put it all down in the wrong places and broken.
I was bored with engineering. I now was diagnosed with cancer. My husband was sleeping with some MBA bimbo. I wanted my mommy, so I went home to Blairstown, IA. Land of the free and the corn, here, things are at a slower pace, except when my 86 year old grandmother, who happens to be a retired radio star from The Breakfast Club, is driving her Town Car.
It’s also hard to keep quiet when my high school sweet heart still wants to marry me and we happen to both be women in a Lutheran town with specific, traditional ways.
Making decisions and coming out of the closet is not easy, especially, when there is a young boy involved who wants to live through preschool and make first grade. Sometimes it takes a town to create a family.
