Live Happily Ever After
by Dr Sanjiva Wijesinha
(Colombo Sri Lanka)
A book written by a Paediatic surgeon and Rotarian that was originally intended as a health education publication for Rotarians must essentially be witty and lucid. It should have pertinent illustrations and anecdotes so as to lure the reader on to read more and so educate and take care of himself or herself to live happily and healthily.
This in essence is what the book "Live Happily Ever After" is all about - demystifying without distorting medical matters.
Commencing with a chapter on how to prepare oneself for a medical consultation, so that the history and the symptoms described to the doctor will assist in the making of the correct diagnosis, Dr. Wijesinha then discusses various diseases such as the common cold, asthma, high blood pressure, gall bladder stones,
appendectomy, anemia, varicose veins, hernias, AIDS, parasitic diseases, heart attacks, dental care, balding and smoking.
The Heimlich Hug is described with an useful illustration and a dramatic account of how it received immediate acclaim. There are details about the type of shoes to purchase for excercise, and of course, a chapter on old wives' tales that prove to be not so far fetched after all!
Each chapter is just a few pages long and conveys useful information in an entertaining and easy to read style.
This book is comfortably small for in-bed reading and would certainly be a good addition to every family's bookshelf.
