The Last Fast - The True Story of the Assassination of Mahatma Gandhi

SK Shravan

The Last Fast is an interesting history of the 18 days leading up to the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. The book portrays Gandhi, the spiritual leader as he meddled in politics after the partition of India and shows why the life of a man of peace ended in violence.

It’s a sensitive unbiased telling of the last days of the spiritual leader's life, the political situation and the point-of-view of his assassin, who believed Gandhi abused his power.

The partition which created Pakistan caused tens of thousands of Hindu’s to flee Pakistan for the South, now India.

Gandhi had been revered by his people for decades but when the staunchly non-violent spiritual leader told the Hindu’s to return to Pakistan it changed his standing with his own Hindu people.

By calling those who had fled for their own safety to return to the now Muslim, Pakistan he angered the tens of thousands of Hindu refugees. All those returning to Pakistan, which had become Muslim faced death at the hands of the Muslim fanatics.

Gandhi began a hunger-strike for so-called Hindu-Muslim unity, but the book reveals a hidden agenda to put pressure on the government showing a more political vein.

Shravan has created an invaluable history by opening doors to the truth as it hasn’t been told before.
